Why should my child receive a neuropsychological evaluation?

Treatment Planning

The results of a neuropsychological evaluation can inform individualized treatment plans tailored to your or your child's specific needs. This might involve educational accommodations, therapy, medication management, or other interventions aimed at addressing cognitive, emotional, or behavioral challenges.

Diagnostic Clarity

By understanding how your child processes information, neuropsychologists can clarify diagnoses that may be contributing to their difficulties, such as a learning disability or ADHD. In turn, this informs how best to support your child moving forward and for them to thrive.

Educational Planning & Accommodations

Neuropsychological evaluations  can identify learning styles, academic strengths and weaknesses, and any specific learning disabilities that may require targeted interventions or educational accommodations. These may include Section 504 plans, IEPs (individualized education programs), or testing accommodations for the ACT, SAT, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, or GRE.

Monitoring Progress

For individuals undergoing treatment or therapy for cognitive or educational difficulties, repeated neuropsychological evaluations can track progress over time. This allows for adjustments to treatment plans as needed and can provide reassurance that interventions are effective.

Self Advocacy

For both children and adults, a neuropsychological evaluation can foster self-understanding and empowerment. By gaining insight into cognitive strengths and weaknesses, individuals can better understand their own behavior, learning styles, and areas where they may need extra support. This understanding can be empowering and facilitate self-advocacy.
